Taşkuyu Cave

Taşkuyu Cave

Taşkuyu Cave, located about 13 km northwest of Tarsus and discovered incidentally in 2006, was developed at the contact of Perma-Carboniferous marbles and the Miocene limestones overlying them. The entrance of the cave, which takes its name from the Taşkuyu District located nearby, is 214 meters above sea level and its known total length is 470 meters. The temperature in the cave, which is very close to the surface, is between 19.5 C -24 C and the relative humidity is between 77% and 89%. The cave consists of interconnected galleries. In these galleries, it is possible to see impressive examples of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, wall and curtain drip stones, cover drip stones and pools. Also, in Taşkuyu Cave, there are eccentricities (contradictory formations) and cave pearls, which are rare in our country's caves.
