Gülek Castle is located in Gülek District, approximately 65 km north of Tarsus. This castle is also 2 km southwest of the Cilician gates. The castle, whose foundations date back to the Middle Ages, is strategically located at an important point. The reason behind this is that it is a place where entrance fee is charged and it is located on the road to Tarsus. According to the architectural plan, stonework and surface finds, it is understood that the castle was inhabited in different periods. The entrance to the castle is through the south gate. Since the north and northeast are on very steep cliffs, it is not fortified like the south. The city walls to the south and west can be easily followed. These walls were strengthened with large and small towers of round or square plan. There is also a cistern at its easternmost end. There are two new buildings on the castle, in which embossed cut block stones are used on the walls. In the outbuilding, there is not much room standing except for the building on the right side of the entrance door.
